AFSE Committee for the promotion of women in economics (Women in Economics, WinE)

Economics is the least feminized of the social sciences. This is due to a number of factors. Numerous works within the discipline document the specific difficulties faced by women economists. As a result, several professional associations have taken steps to encourage female students to study economics, and to promote women in the profession.

France is no exception to this under-representation of women in the discipline, which is why the AFSE set up a committee in 2023 dedicated to the promotion of women in Economics(Women in Economics, WinE). The aim is to support women economists in their professional careers by making them more visible, facilitating the formation of networks and the circulation of information likely to help them, while raising awareness throughout the profession. Particular attention is paid to young women who may encounter difficulties during their doctorate or at the start of their career.

The committee has carried out analytical work on the place of women in the discipline, particularly in France, as well as literature reviews and actions undertaken by similar initiatives abroad. The post on the AFSE blog is a good summary of these reflections, which are essential prerequisites for the committee's actions.

The committee has also set up a mentoring program for young economists, seethe dedicated page.
