Philippe Martin 2025 Prize for the best thesis in economics. Apply now!

The prize, created in 2024 by the Conseil d'analyse économique and its partners, Insee and Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale, in tribute to Philippe Martin, rewards the best doctoral theses in economics each year.

Who is eligible?
To be eligible for the Prix Philippe Martin, the work must make a clear contribution to the development, management or evaluation of public policy. For the 2025 prize, the thesis must have been defended between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025.
The prize of 14,000 euros is awarded by a jury of CAE members. It will be awarded in December 2025 at the annual CEPR Symposium. Winners will have the opportunity to propose a Focus project presenting the main contributions of the thesis, which will be published on the ACE website.

How to get involved

Applications must be submitted before September 15, 2025 by the thesis or laboratory directors of the institutions in which the students were registered at the time of their thesis defense. The same thesis or laboratory director may submit several applications.

The application file must include the following attachments in pdf format:
- a summary of the thesis (10 pages maximum) focusing on the original results likely to be published;
- a chapter of the thesis corresponding to the job market paper (the thesis can be written in French or English);
- a CV of the candidate.

The 2025 prize calendar
- June 2025: Publicity for the competition at the grandes écoles and universities awarding economics degrees, and on social networks.
- September 15, 2025: Application deadline
- Mid-September - mid-November 2025: examination of applications by jury members
- Mid-November 2025: Jury plenary meeting to establish the prize list
- December 2025: Award ceremony
