In memoriam Ghazala Azmat

It is with great sadness that AFSE announces the death of Ghazala Azmat, Professor of Economics at Sciences Po.

A brilliant micro-economist, Ghazala was Director of the Organizational Economics program at CEPR and a member of the Executive Committee and Council of the European Economic Association (EEA).

Ghazala received her PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and held academic positions at Queen Mary University of London and Pompeu Fabra University, before joining Sciences Po. An associate researcher at CEPR, CESifo and IZA, she was also a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France. She also headed the EEA Committee for the Representation of Women in Economics.

Her research work on the labor market, education, gender inequality and organizational behavior has been published in leading international journals. Ghazala carried out meticulous empirical work, always with a keen interest in economic policy decisions.

For the past three years, Ghazala has been a member of the jury for the Prix Malinvaud, awarded each year by AFSE in recognition of a scientific article in economics published by a young economist from a French institution.

AFSE extends its deepest condolences to her family and friends. She will be sorely missed.
