The causes of falling labor productivity in the eurozone and France

Labor productivity has fallen slightly across the eurozone as a whole since 2017, and has fallen very sharply in France since 2019. In this post, Patrick Artus argues that this decline is less attributable to cyclical causes (hiring difficulties, rising employment rate of low-skilled workers) than to structural causes (insufficient investment in new technologies and R&D efforts, aging of the working-age population, skills of the workforce, and attitudes of employees towards work).
